Where will I save money?

Softened water provides real cost savings in service, maintenance and replacement of water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines and showers and also extends their life. It will improve the efficiency of hot water and heating systems ? just 1.6mm (1/16?) of scale build-up in heating systems will cause a 12% loss in heating efficiency. Softened water can also remove existing scale deposits in hot water and heating systems as well as the scale around taps, in shower heads and stains on bath and basins.

How your Mistral Automatic Softener works

A Mistral Automatic Water Softener consists of a pressure vessel filled with resin. Located on the top of the pressure vessel is the control valve. All of this is mounted in a cabinet. The mains water is passed through the control valve and down into the vessel. As the water passes across the resin bed, the calcium and magnesium attach to the resin so that the water leaving the unit is soft.

Size?

The Mistral softener is available in five different sizes, depending on your needs and space. It can easily be fitted into your kitchen, garage, bathroom, cellar or any other suitable place.

Installation

Installing a Water Softener is almost as easy as installing a Washing Machine or Dishwasher. So you can carry out the work yourself. Alternatively you can use a competent plumber. (The British Water Code of Practice which covers all new water softener installations, requires that where reasonably practicable, a pipe leading to a mains tap for unsoftened or mains drinking water should be connected directly to the water supply pipe prior to the water softener inlet)

Maintenance

Maintaining your Water Softener is easy. All you need to do is add salt. In order to ensure continued trouble-free operation we recommend that you have your Water Softener serviced every two years.

MISTRAL SOFTENER CABINETS

Mistral cabinets are manufactured in grey with a tough plastic finish for strength and robustness. With contrasting salt lid, they look good whether installed free-standing or under the sink.
CUSTOMERS ARE ADVISED THAT CABINET HOODS (AS SHOWN ON THE IMAGES) ARE OPTIONAL EXTRAS.
The Hood is not required for under-sink installations and if fitted, may make salt filling a little more difficult. However, it may improve protection from the frost or merely add to the aesthetic effect when installed in other locations.

What size do we need?

A range of sizes are available. With the accent on typical UK under the sink installations, vessel volumes from 4 to 24 litres can be accommodated within a maximum height of 820mm including valve.

    * Divide by the number in the household for the average time between regeneration at 280 ppm hardness

General Notes, customers are advised of the following:

  • The Autotrol water softener valves have a flow rate of up to 3000 litres per hour, however, flow rates may be reduced if small bore flexi hose type installation kits are used, flow rates will not be significantly reduced if the bore of the inlet and outlet pipe connections are consistant with the existing pipes
  • The hardness of your water supply is required to be progammed during the setup, this information may be supplied by your local water authority, or, Hard Water Drop Test Kits are available

  • TIMECLOCK OR METER CONTROL??

    TIMECLOCK

  • Timeclock versions use the 440i control, the number of days between regenerations are calculated by the number of people using the water supply, (the amount of water each person uses per day averages at about 150 litres), the hardness of the water and the model of water softener (the table shown on the next page gives the amount of water processed between regenerations for the various models of Mistral Water Softeners at a given hardness).
  • With the time of day correctly set, the water softener will regenerate at about 2:a.m. on the day programmed regardless of the amount of water actually used.

  • METER
  • Meter versions use the 460i control, the unit is factory set to regenerate at 2:a.m. when necessary.
  • The meter versions are usually more economic on salt usage due to the water softener regenerating only when the metered amount of water has been conditioned
  • The 460i combines a meter with a microprocessor.
  • Every day the computer measures how much soft water your family uses. It "learns" your usage patterns, continually monitors changes in usage and regenerates only when necessary.
  • SELF ADJUSTING RESERVE CAPACITY. The 460i knows exactly how much soft water you use each day and it analyzes and adjusts the reserve capacity daily to meet your actual changing usage, as a result, the reserve is never too high (causing it to regenerate more often, wasting salt), or too low (which could cause hard water to break through).
  • With the time of day correctly set, the water softener will regenerate at about 2:a.m.
